Question: What is the difference between Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer?

In the Stock tab of the driver settings, you'll notice that you can set your method to "Use Current Printer Setting" or "Direct Thermal" or "Thermal Transfer." It is critical that you always use "Thermal Transfer" explicitly. "Direct Thermal" is for thermal-sensitive materials that don't require a ribbon, such as receipt paper. In Direct Thermal mode, the printer behaves as if no ribbon is present. If you set it to Direct Thermal mode when ribbon is loaded, the ribbon will be dragged out the front of the printer and cut with the vinyl.

It is also important that you do not use the "Use Current Printer Setting" option. In some cases it will work for a time, but the internal memory may get reset, causing the printer to act as if it is in Direct Thermal mode. Setting the printer to Thermal Transfer avoids this issue.

Question: Where can I find my driver settings in Windows 10?

Windows 10 has two "Devices and Printers" sections. To access all of the driver settings, we recommend using the classic Control Panel. Click the Windows Logo at the bottom-left of your screen and start typing "control panel." The control panel should show up as an option. Once in the control panel, there should be a search bar in the upper-right; search for "devices and printers" to run the classic version.

Once you're in the correct Devices and Printers section, right-click the label printer driver (listed as TSC-TTP...) and choose "Printer Preferences." You should see the tabs that are mentioned in the Getting Started Guide that came with your printer.
