If OSHA conducts a Records Only inspection, does that mean they will only look at our records?

QUESTION: If OSHA conducts a 'Records Only' inspection, does that mean they will only look at our records?

ANSWER: No, even if OSHA is conducting a 'Records Only' inspection, a 'walkaround' inspection of the facility will still be conducted and employees at the facility are interviewed. Under OSHA's Recordkeeping regulations, employers must provide the requested records within four business hours once a request has been made by OSHA, but OSHA may proceed with a walkaround of the facility immediately. If the OSHA Compliance Officers observe any serious violations during the walkaround, those violations will be thoroughly investigated by OSHA and may result in citations and penalties.
