Industrial Label Printer
An industrial label printer is a label printer that is well suited to printing in and for
industrial environments.
Industrial label printers are built to operate in a variety of conditions without affecting the
label printing. Industrial label printers can be desktop class, and
often work in connection with a PC for label design.
Vinyl is the most common type of material used in industrial label printers. There are many
varieties and formulations of labeling vinyl available. Thicker vinyl is generally more durable, but you also need to make sure
you use vinyl that is UV and scratch resistant. Choosing the right labeling vinyl is important when working with industrial label printers.
Industrial label printers that print on vinyl generally do not use a liquid ink like most printers. Instead, they use a
thermal transfer ribbon which is a very thin sheet of plastic with a layer / coating of
ink. The ink layer is tranferred into the vinyl using a precision thermal print head. This
thermal print head is usually between 200-300 DPI, and is the most important part of a quality industrial label printer.
This thermal transfer ribbon ink also comes in many varieties. You can use a wax-based ribbon, or a wax-resin mix, or a full-resin. The
resin formulas are far superior for quality and durability, but require a more precise quality in the industrial label printer in order
to work. Having the correct formulations in vinyl and ink is critical for any industrial label printer.
